During operation, the motor drives the impeller at low speed through a V-belt and reducer. Sand and gravel enter the washing tank and are turned by the rotating impeller. As the material tumbles, particles rub against one another, loosening clay and other impurities on their surfaces. Water carries away lighter impurities through the overflow outlet. The washed sand and gravel are lifted by the impeller blades and discharged from the tank.
